The Italian Riviera
Santa Margherita Ligure is in a beautiful position on
the Gulf of Tigullio. Its’ attractive palm-fringed
harbour faces a long beach and glorious views. It is one
of those elegant, stunning, classic Italian resorts
where small fishing boats and gleaming yachts can be
viewed from the pavement cafes and excellent
restaurants. Graceful buildings and gardens dominate the
picturesque back drop to the picturesque bay.
Close by is the glamorous village of Portofino, set in a
dramatic bay and surrounded by beautiful countryside, it
has a pretty harbour and quaint streets. Worth a visit
is the small church of San Giorgio, with splendid views
over the bay to the open sea, standing perched on the
promontory of Punta di Portofino, it is accessible by a
short walk. The Liguria region is of immense natural
beauty with soaring mountains, stunning scenery, ancient
towns and mile upon mile of gloriously rugged coastline.
